Music Scholarships

Regarding 2021 Scholarship Auditions

These would usually be held in September 2020 but due to current Covid-19 Restrictions and the consequent uncertainty surrounding gatherings and concerts, no arrangements have been made to conduct them at this stage.

Should circumstances change to the extent that auditions will be held this year, information will be advertised in schools and on this website.

Scholarship winners 2000 – 2019

The Scholarships were initiated at the Millennium in 2000. Our intention is to encourage music making and love for music in the young and encourage those with talent to continue to the point of making music their career choice. It was decided to do this by providing monetary awards to assist with ongoing expenses and giving them opportunities to perform in front of audiences.

The choir offers an annual scholarship with a first prize of $2,000 and, subject to a satisfactory standard, a second prize of $1,000. The Scholarship is open to any young person with proven musical ability, vocal and/or instrumental, aged between 12 and 16 years as at 1st January in the year following auditions. The award is designed to recognise the ability of outstanding young musicians, to encourage them to pursue their studies and to provide opportunities for the winners to perform publicly as associate artists with the choir.

Applications from young musicians are invited from May/June onwards in each year and details are published on this web site at that time.

Schools are notified well in advance to allow them to advise students.
